Entry Log #8 - Reflections and Farewells

 *** INCOMING TRANSMISSION ***

Location - The Starship: Literacy

Transmitter - Captain Antonis Ybarra

Message goes as follows:

With our expedition on the Starship: Literacy drawing to an end, I can confidently say that the remaining survivors and I will make it back safely. To the structural integrity of the ship, there is much work to be done that might cause some shakiness so the effort is not done yet. However, the outlook and hope is much brighter in lieu of recent events. This experience has opened my eyes to a variety of different means of examining topics. It has been a thrill to examine topics in other ways than strictly academic. With ample time allowance and work budgeting, I feel this is something I would love to incorporate in my future classroom in one way or another.

In terms of professionalism, I would select the first blog post. This was during a time that came before I found my creative tone and voice for these entrys. However, I felt that my balance of personal voice and professional structure showed true in this one especially.

#1

For multimodal design and creativity, I would have to choose 5.5 where I detailed the effects of the Burnout Virus. The structure took a darker turn but carried consistently with the narrative. I feel that there is much good from the interpretation of real-world issues conveyed through the evolving story to display parallels.

#5.5

On the subject of civic engagement, Log 7 adds much to this area given it is the central topic. It not only touches on topics that are important to discuss when it comes to civic engagement, but also highlights a very important text that should be discussed more in classrooms and other areas alike.

#7

For the People's Choice Award, I would like to nominate Ivy's "The Garden". Not only was the theme and aesthetic of it entirely consistent, but the actual content of the material was present and always well written. I could think of no one more befitting the award.

Godspeed, fair travels, and best wishes,

Antonis Ybarra, Captain of the Starship: Literacy

    Message goes as follows:

Captain Antonis, your journey aboard the Starship: Literacy has been nothing short of memorable. From launch to final transmission, your commitment to the theme elevated every entry into something more than just a response; it became an experience. This final log serves as a fitting conclusion to a semester of creative exploration and thoughtful reflection.

Your ability to balance professionalism with creativity really stood out to me, especially in your reflection on earlier logs compared to later ones. It shows growth not just as a writer, but as a storyteller. The inclusion of the “Burnout Virus” as a creative piece was a strong choice, as it demonstrated how a healthy expression of stress can be used as an opportunity to grow as a writer.

Most importantly, your posts were consistently engaging. They didn’t just answer prompts; they invited the reader in. That’s not easy to do, and it’s something that will carry over well into your future classroom.

For now, I bid you farewell, Captain. Wishing you clear skies and successful missions ahead.

    Tyler Dickson, Chief Observer

    Cadet Antonis,
Thank you so much for acknowledging my ship in this transmission. The camaraderie you've shown our fleet means a lot and I am happy to share this classroom galaxy with you!

I thought your posts really banded us together as a cohort and community as your theme invited us to play in this genre with you. I looked forward to your transmissions and felt you approached the material with vulnerability, professionalism, and a sense of creative joy. I think the burnout virus was such a valuable post for all of us, as it spoke to something we all feel in a playful and creative way. You demonstrated what reaching for support and showing vulnerability in this cohort looks like and I am so glad that you shared that moment of stress with us in this way!

If this is the energy you will be bringing into your teaching, then I think your students will be very lucky to have you.

I wish you well in your galactic journeys, you will always have an ally in The Garden.
    Signing off,
    Captain Ivy of The Garden
